Some years ago, a
redeemed daughter of our Lord was travelling by plane. Sitting by her side was
a woman from a foreign country. Refusing the food offere by the air hostess,
the foreigner asked for liquor and went on drinking it.
The woman by her side asked, “Why are you
drinking without eating any food?” The foreigner replied, “I’m fasting.” The
devout daughter of God was greatly surprised
to learn that the woman was at once drinking and fasting. Observing the
expression on the face of her neighbor, the foreigner continued, “ I’m not a
Christian as you suppose. The god I worship is satan. I fast and pray to Satan
to split families, to sow discord between husband and wife and wreck the peace
in every family”. These words gave me a rude shock.
When later the daughter of God wrote to
convey this to me, my heart became unspeakably heavy. These days the Devil is
hell-bent on spoiling the happy relationship between husband and wife,
destroying the peace and harmony in every family and thereby defeating the
every purpose for which the Lord created the institution of the family. The
thought of people fasting and praying to satan to destroy the happiness of families
made me pray to our Lord more and more fervently.
The lord established family life so that His
children could live a blessed life. But the Devil has stealthily made his way
into families and destroyed the peace in the family life, thereby reducing it
to a veritable hell. To achieve his end, he has made clever use of suspicion,
family pride, greed for money, quarrelsomeness, grumbling and argumentativeness
on the part of both husband and wife.
Do you find your family life no better than
Hell? Jesus Christ has the power to change it into something like Heaven
itself. Jesus can change your peaceless, strife – filled family life into one
of bliss and happiness. Jesus said, “ The thief does not come except to steal
and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they
may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10) Indeed, the thief Satan come only to
destroy our peace and happiness, but our Lord Jesus Christ came to this world
to give up perfect life.
Our Lord came as the Prince of Peace to give
us Peace. For the sake of our peace, He commitred Himself to death on the
cross. When Jesus comes into our hearts, there will be peace in our family
life.
If you have not yet accepted Jesus into your
heart, do so today. Without Jesus the Prince of Peace in your heart, you can
never find peace in your life. You should give Him His rightful place not only
in your heart but in your family as well.
Do pray as a family every day. Do not put a
stop to family prayer just because the Husband or the children are not there to
participate. As you go on praying, the Lord will bring about a change for the
better in your family. Even those who have been keeping away from family prayer
will experience a change of heart and participate in it.
Fast and pray for your family once a week.
Pray specifically for every member of your family on that day. Make known to
God all the problems and all the needs of the family. Your prayer will bring
about a remarkable change in your family.
Prayer alone will not bring peace into your
family. You should organize your life according to what is stated in the Bible,
which is the Word of God. Only then can you see real happiness in your family
life.
The Bible tells us clearly how a Husband and
wife should conduct themselves and how a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law,
parents and children should behave. When we order our lives according to the
Word of God, we can find happiness and God’s blessings in our families.
