THE GLORY OF FAMILY LIFE
If we really want to experience happiness in family life, we should understand its significance. We should know the answer to the following questions: Who started family life? Whats was his aim in doing so? How and to what extent does He help us in our family life?
1) It was God who started family life!
The way family was started is described in Genesis, the Fist book of the bible. The first wedding took place in the Garden of Eden. It was God our creator and the Marker of Heaven and Earth who conducted the first wedding between the first man Adam and the first woman Eve.The all-wise God who created us never does anything without proper reason. The fact that God Himself started family life shows how important it is. Today many people are people are not alive to its importance. They think marriage is a mere ceremony conducted in keeping with tradition. Many others suppose that parents are duty-bound to conduct the marriage of their children when they become old enough to get married. There are also people who regard marriage. As a convenient arrangement for the gratification of carnal desire. However, what is of paramount importance is that everyone should marry only after understanding God’s aim in establishing the institution of family life. Several families are turning into veritable hells only because the people who constitute them enter into family life in a rather playful spirit without realizing that God Himself started it.
After creating Adam, God said, “It is not good that man should be alone”; therefore He created Eve as Adam’s companion and thus formed the first family. This shows that the husband is the most appropriate companion of the wife and wife is the proper companion of the husband.
It is God’s will that husband and wife should be dependent on each other and each should be the other’s companion. Obvious of this truth, several people attach great importance to impertinent things like money, property, jewellery, education, family greatness and beauty. That is why great many families are full of tears.
Every one of you, whether man or wife, should think: “God has given me this family life; God has given me this wife. God has given me this husband. As man and wife we shall conduct ourselves in a way that will be pleasing to God even as Adam and Eve did during the time God walked with in the Garden of Eden”. So thinking, you should dedicate your life.
2) The Lord ennobled family life!
Although Jesus Christ performed many miracles during the time he was in the flesh in this world, he worked his very first miracle at a wedding house (John 2). He added glory to family life by supplying a serious want there: He changed water into wine when there was a shortage of it for the dispelled sorrow and brought back happiness.
Is your family life tasteless and insipid and devoid of fragrance like water? Jesus is capable of changing it into something tasty and fragrant like wine. However painful your life may be, you need not worry. Give Jesus His due place in your life and He will fill your Family life with joy and happiness. Perhaps you lament; “I once thought married life would be full of unmixed happiness. Had I known that married life would be as bitter as I find it now, I would not have married at all”. Remember life is a mixer of joy and sorrow. In family life there will always be deficiencies and diseases, sorrows and struggles. But Jesus who can change all this is with us. Hallelujah!

3) The Lord Makes life glorious!
The Lord who started family life and made perfect what was imperfect at a wedding, has also glorified family life. There is a reference to a wedding in the last book of the Bible: “ the wedding supper of the Lamb” (Rev.19:7-9). From this it is clear that all of us have to prepare for another wedding a wedding which is to take place in the sky. The bridegroom is Jesus Christ and we are His bride. All of us, individually and as families, must prepare for that great day.
An invitation is extended to anyone, but not everyone can take part in that wedding. Only those who have been washed clean by the blood of Jesus and filled with the Holy Spirit and lead a holy life acceptable to the Lord only they can participate in that wedding. You should prepare for that wedding; you should prepare your family for that wedding without seeking things of this world, without regarding this world as a refuge.
